One night, at dinner, Elinor once again corrects Merida about being a princess and confesses that a princess should not have weapons in her own opinion. Years later, Merida is a teenager that Elinor is trying to make into a proper princess despite Merida's objection.

Suddenly, Mor'du attacks, and Elinor and Merida flee while Fergus stays behind to fight the demon bear. Elinor explains that the wisps lead people to their fate, but Fergus doesn't believe it. Merida comes back and says she saw Will O' the Wisps. Elinor nervously watches as Merida accidentally shoots her sixth arrow into the forest and goes to get it back. Then, Elinor sees her husband King Fergus's bow on the table and asks him to not put it on the table until Fergus presents Merida with her own bow as a birthday present. In her bear form, her vocal sound effects were provided by Frank Welker.Įlinor is first seen playing hide-and-seek with her daughter, Merida, on her birthday. She is voiced by Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson. Her name means "shining light" in Gaelic. But her vision of her daughter’s future is at odds with Merida’s rebellious spirit and desire to forge her own path, which ultimately causes Elinor to face calamitous consequences. Elinor strives to instill in Merida the knowledge and manner of a royal, expecting a complete commitment to Elinor’s standards. As the measured, diplomatic counterpoint to her more impulsive husband Fergus, Elinor carries the weight of the kingdom on her shoulders in order to maintain the fragile peace between the volatile clans. A vision of grace, wisdom and strength of character, Queen Elinor is fiercely dedicated to the well being of her family and kingdom. She is the mother of Merida and wife of King Fergus. Because if Merida does not make a stand here, she is going to be a doormat for the rest of her life.Queen Elinor is the deuteragonist from Disney and Pixar's 2012 movie Brave.

Careless, maybe(like nobody ever learned anything from "Macbeth" concerning witches in Scotland) but not selfish. Even worse is how the movie harps on Merida's so-called selfishness. But at the same time, Pixar's DNA commingling with Disney's is taking shape, and it's not entirely pretty, as there are also anachronistic silliness and minor vulgarities here. With the entertaining "Brave," Pixar's winning streak of high quality animation continues. All of whom she promptly embarrasses with her superior bow skills, before getting in an argument with her mother and then running away into the forest where she comes across a witch minding her business. But as a princess, she has certain responsibilities that her younger brothers do not, like presiding over a competition of three suitors for her hand in marriage. In "Brave," Merida would like nothing more than to run around with her bow and arrow all day.
